The Bible is literally a library of books (66 in all) that collectively tell the same inter-locking, over-arching story. Yet, at the same time, it is an amazing collection of smaller stories. Taken individually they have much to teach us. As believers, we can get so focused on the big story that we forget the smaller ones. In this series of sermons we will explore some of those smaller stories in order to benefit from the big lessons they are intended to teach.

There are some biblical stories that are so big that most everybody has heard them before--even people who do not follow Jesus. We have spent the past several weeks looking at some of the smaller stories of the Bible, but today we turn our attention to the story of David and Goliath--one of the Bible's best known stories. As you listen, resist the temptation to run ahead and assume there is nothing new here. When we study God’s Word with an engaged mind and active imagination, we always find something new!

As the sun was rising, the women made their way through the fog of their discouragement to the graveyard. They carried spices to anoint the body of a friend and an almost unbearable load of disappointment. As they trudged along, they wondered how they would move the great stone that blocked the entrance of the tomb. To their shock, however, the stone had been rolled away. Quickly they entered the tomb, finding it empty. Their minds reeled and as they tried to make sense of what they were seeing, they were startled by the appearance of two angels who chided them with these words: “Why do you look for the living among the dead?” That is a very good question! Today’s message will consider how we repeat their mistake and suggest a better way.

<img src="http://bpod.podOmatic.com/mymedia/thumb/2191/0x0_1618498.png" alt="itunes pic" /><br />The Prayer of Jabez

<img src="http://bpod.podOmatic.com/mymedia/thumb/2191/0x0_1172826.jpg" alt="itunes pic" /><br />Christ Above All (Part 5)

While imprisoned in Rome, Paul was moved to write a letter of warning and encouragement to some new Christians. His main message? He wanted them to know that despite the many and varied messages to the contrary, Christ is above all--period. Paul's words are as relevant and needed today. The TV, Radio, Internet, and print media are filled with confusing and contradicting messages that promise what only Jesus can truly deliver—abundant life. This sermon series will explore and apply the words Paul wrote to the Colossians—and to us.

      <itunes:summary>Christ Above All (Part 4)

While imprisoned in Rome, Paul was moved to write a letter of warning and encouragement to some new Christians. His main message? He wanted them to know that despite the many and varied messages to the contrary, Christ is above all--period. Paul's words are as relevant and needed today. The TV, Radio, Internet, and print media are filled with confusing and contradicting messages that promise what only Jesus can truly deliver—abundant life. This sermon series will explore and apply the words Paul wrote to the Colossians—and to us.

Jesus pushed people beyond ambivalence and made it clear that as far as He was concerned, they must decide to accept or reject Him; there was no neutral ground! His arrival was a declaration of war! By establishing an outpost of the Kingdom of Heaven on earth, He made a major encroachment into the enemy's territory and called every man, woman, boy and girl to choose a side. To claim Jesus as our Savior is to enlist in His army and to engage in a battle for the supremacy of God in our world! The battle is real and the stakes are eternal. While we may prefer other metaphors to describe our religious experience, we must embrace our role as soldiers in the army of God. This series of messages will encourage us to take up arms and fight the good fight.

The most powerful force known to humanity is unleashed when an atom (something so small that it cannot be seen) is split. When harnessed, that force can be both a devastating weapon and an efficient form of energy. Christians have access to enormous power that, when harnessed, can serve as weapon to launch against our enemy the devil and as an energy source to propel us through life. It is called prayer. This series will explore prayer’s great power and benefits.

Is Happiness Overrated? (2)

<img src="http://bpod.podOmatic.com/mymedia/thumb/2191/0x0_750633.png" alt="itunes pic" /><br />Is Happiness Overrated? (2)
Are you happy? What makes you happy? And what is happiness, anyway? Recently researchers have turned their attention to these questions and some of what they have discovered is surprising. For example: men tend to be happier than women; happier people make less money; Christians tend to be happier than atheists; and happiness doesn’t increase with wealth. The truth is, we all desire to be happy and most of us feel we have room for more happiness in our lives. Is there a biblical view of happiness? That is what this message is about.

Living in Epiphany

<img src="http://bpod.podOmatic.com/mymedia/thumb/2191/0x0_740711.png" alt="itunes pic" /><br />Living in Epiphany. Epiphany is celebrated by Christian communities around the world each January 6th. For some, it recalls the day the Magi brought gifts to honor the newborn king, to others it is a remembrance of Jesus’ baptism. The common thread that unites both is that Jesus’ true identity is revealed in these events; epiphany means “shining forth” or “unveiling.” In today’s message, we will consider what the Magi’s gifts say to us about Jesus and how we should live for Him this year..

What one word says "Christmas" to you? Peace? Joy? Love? Gifts? These are great descriptions, to be sure. In fact, the Christmas event is about God bringing these things to humanity. There is another word, though, that is necessary when discussing Christmas—that word is sin. Christmas is good news because we need it so desperately. In today's message, we will consider why without sin there would be no Christmas.

Amazing! We say that when we see or experience something that exceeds our expectations or that astonishes us. Over and again, the Scriptures tell us that people were amazed at what they saw in Jesus. I believe that, even in our world so full of seemingly miraculous special effects and computer-generated wonders, we too will be amazed by him if we take the time to get to know him!

<itunes:summary>That’s Amazing (Jesus Heals the Paralytic)

Conformity and getting along seem to be our natural instincts. We even have clichés that assuage our guilt over inactivity: “Don’t make waves; don’t rock the boat.” And yet, there is a voice in us that resists. At the core, we value boldness, bravery, and swimming against the current. But how do we fight the social conditioning that makes us timid? Where do we find the nerve to act with nobility? I think Peter wanted to give us that in his letters. This series of messages explores those letters and offers to help us find our courage.

<itunes:summary>Conformity and getting along seem to be our natural instincts.

Ways God Speaks

<img src="http://bpod.podOmatic.com/mymedia/thumb/2191/0x0_619681.png" alt="itunes pic" /><br />Everyone at one time or another wonders about God’s specific will or desire for a given circumstance. We ask “God, what should I do?” but then we wonder how that answer will come. How will we know we have really heard from God? The Bible makes it clear that God has spoken, is speaking, and will continue to speak to His followers. The only real question is how will we hear him?

I made these up as a way to do what Paul reccomends in Philippians 4:8.

Listening to these helps drown out the devil's lies and reminds me of God's evalution of me.
