Our Attitude toward Others 2

The Bible requires us to check our attitude toward everybody— toward both those inside and outside of the church. Over the next two weeks we will discuss God’s plan for each group (and it is significantly different for each group). Today, let’s look outside and deal especially with questions related to political involvement.

Loving Enough to Hate

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven (Ecclesiastes 3:1). These words introduce one of the best known passages in the Bible. It is a section of Scripture that pairs many of the actions that represent the ebb and flow of daily life—ripping and sewing, sowing and reaping, living and dying. Near the end of the list, though, the writer says there is “a time to love, and a time to hate.” A time for hate? Really? This jars our current sensitivities and deserves some elaboration. That is what this sermon is about—becoming better haters!

        Just a Little White Lie

The Bible is literally a library of books (66 in all) that collectively tell the same inter-locking, over-arching story. Yet, at the same time, it is an amazing collection of smaller stories. Taken individually they have much to teach us. As believers, we can get so focused on the big story that we forget the smaller ones. In this series of sermons we will explore some of those smaller stories in order to benefit from the big lessons they are intended to teach.
